Kelly recruited Dave Fipp from the Miami Dolphins to run the Eagles special teams. PR Damaris Johnson and KR Brandon Boykin both praise Fipp for empowering them to make plays based on their judgment.

“He says whatever we see, whenever you see an opening, go and take it and make the most of it,” Boykin told the Philadelphia Daily News. "That freedom gives you a lot more confidence as a runner.”

Boykin has returned two kickoffs for 74 yards, including a 41-yarder. Johnson has returned three punts for 87 yards, including a 62-yarder in the preseason opener against New England. Combined with Johnson's two kickoff returns for 49 yards, the Eagles are averaging nearly 31 yards per return.

As a team, the Eagles have had only one penalty and one missed tackle when defending kicks so far in the preseason.
