San Francisco 49ers LB Aldon Smith was arrested earlier this morning by the San Jose Police after he was involved in a single-car accident. He blew 0.15 on his breathalyzer test, and marijuana and pills were also discovered in his car.
While Smith has a prescription for the marijuana, that doesn’t mean much to the NFL. Marijuana is on their list of banned substances, and that will factor into his case when they review it.
“The 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Aldon Smith. As we continue to gather information regarding this situation, we will have no further comment,” a 49ers spokesman said in a statement.
Smith, who has a history of off-the-field incidents, is most certainly looking at a suspension by the NFL. This isn’t the first time he’s had a run in with the law, and the third-year pro out of Missouri could be out as early as this Sunday when the 49ers go up against the Indianapolis Colts.
