The San Francisco 49ers have placed Darcel McBath on injured reserve due to a left foot injury, according to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area. San Francisco then claimed LB Joe Holland off of waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to replace him on the roster.
The injury occurred last week during the team’s preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs while covering a punt. He’s still only 27 years old, so he still has plenty of time ahead of him to return to the field if he manages to fully recover.
Initially drafted by the Denver Broncos during the short-lived Josh McDaniels era, the former second-round pick from Texas Tech hasn’t lived up to his high draft status, but he’s at least managed to carve out a place for himself on special teams.
McBath joined the 49ers on a one-year deal after being waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars last year. He was a restricted free agent after the end of the 2012 season, and San Francisco re-signed him to a deal in March.
