49ers WR Quinton Patton Has Fractured Foot
The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver corps continues to take hits. This time it’s rookie Quinton Patton, who fractured his foot on Thursday night. Patton limped off the field in the second quarter with a foot injury, and he never returned to the game. He was held to one reception for zero yards in the 49ers’ victory in Week 4 over the St. Louis Rams.
Coach John Harbaugh revealed the news of the injury, and he said that t Patton would not be placed on injured reserve. However, while the team believes that he’ll return sometime this season, there are no guarantees. Whether or not the foot injury does indeed prematurely end his rookie season, the 49ers will have to continue their search for answers in the passing game.
QB Colin Kaepernick was efficient against the Rams, but Frank Gore was the catalyst on offense. Kaepernick needs some more weapons around him, and losing Patton certainly doesn’t help.
The fourth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech has been creeping his way up the depth chart, and he played opposite Anquan Boldin in two-receiver sets. While he hasn’t produced a single reception up until this week, there were some hopes that he would provide them with a boost.
