5 Training Reminders for Players at All Levels
How you train is often how you play. Some players are naturally more athletic or just gifted at their sport, but no matter what skill-level you are, focusing on these five training reminders will improve your game.
1. You control your effort
You may not always be the best player out there, but where you lack in skill, make up for with heart. Always give it your all. Go 100%.
If nothing else, you will help make your teammates better because you’re training hard. Nobody can take your effort away from you.
2. Want to improve
The players that have the desire to improve will do so. They will work on the little things they aren’t getting quite right until they don’t make mistakes.
Practice makes perfect, and they practice all the time. Every time they go out on the field, they recognize a certain skill they aren’t the best at and make that their focus.
3. Be mentally all there
Tuning into what your coaches are saying, focusing on the drill at hand, and understanding the rules of each activity.
These are all little, simple things you can do at practice that will take your game to the next level. Focus on all the small details and you will become a more knowledgeable player.
When the coach is talking, make sure the information isn’t going in one ear and out the other.
The best players are actively listening and trying to understand what is being told to them. Coaches are there to guide you, to teach you, to help you improve, so listen to what they have to say.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions when you don’t understand.
5. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable
Practice is the perfect place to try new things and to better yourself. When you’re practicing a new skill, you will make mistakes and that’s ok. Trying new things takes you out of your comfort zone and that is when you will start to improve.
If you never try, you’ll never know what you’re capable of achieving.
Practice hard and often and you will start to see results. They won’t happen overnight, they happen to those who work on it everyday at practice and on their own time.
You will be as good as you train to be.
