6 Essential Skills for Succeeding in College Soccer
Success in college soccer does not come easy. It takes hard work and plenty of focus in order to succeed at the college level.
Here are 6 essential skills for being successful in the world of college soccer.
1. Control what you can
Do everything in your power to be your best you. There are injuries that will happen that can’t be avoided, but make sure you are taking the right approach in your daily lifestyle.
This means getting the right amount of sleep, eating right, and keeping yourself as healthy as possible.
2. Proper mindset
Have a goal and make a plan and go achieve it with your team. Understand that the little skill you are working on in practice might end up being the game-changing play. There is no such thing as too small of a task.
Everything you are doing in practice, lifting, and conditioning is preparing you to reach the goals you have set for yourself and your team.
3. Competitive drive
You have to want to make things happen. There will be obstacles that you have to overcome but you can’t let them deter you. Pushing forward and getting through challenges will make you stronger than you ever thought possible.
Be competitive with yourself, your teammates, and your opponents. Being competitive with your teammates in practice is the best way to make them and yourself better.
4. Thick skin
The best college soccer players don’t let things get to them. You will get yelled at, you will be told things you don’t agree with, and you can’t let these things rattle you.
Having a thick skin will enable you to be able to shake off criticisms and not let them unnerve you, but allow them to help make you a better player. You will be confronted with new challenges daily.
How do you handle adversity when it comes your way? Do you take what your coach says in practice personally and don’t try to make the adjustment they suggested? If so, you are preventing yourself from getting better.
5. The heart for it
This has to be what you want to do. College soccer will change your life but you will also have to change your life for it.
Those who want to succeed and make it as a college soccer player will find a way to be the best they can in everything that they do. They have an undying passion for the sport and bring it to every practice and game.
Pay attention to each task you are doing. Little tasks and skills are the building blocks to a bigger goal.
Staying focused on what you want to achieve combines these five other skills and enables you to become the best college soccer player you can be.
