1. Get Fit
If you're going to be a box-to-box player, you've got to have an established level of fitness that strikes fear into your opponents. This doesn't mean doing mindless laps around the pitch before and after practice, or training like you're a grunt in the marine corp.
You can develop a high level of fitness by training with the ball, and by doing game related drills, small sided games, etc., but if you are going to be an effective No. 8, you've got to be able to get up and down the pitch with ease.
2. Soldier On
Your defenders and holding midfielder rely on you to help defend, your attacking center midfielder and wings count on you to create and score, you've got to come to terms with the fact that you are going to need to be involved in every phase of the match.
Learn to love the importance of your role in the squad, embrace it, and never shy away from being in the spotlight.
Become the unfaltering soldier who carries on and never shows signs of frustration or fatigue.
3. Be the Link
Your defenders and defensive center midfielder need you to pick the ball up and be the link between defense and attack.
