Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene says the team spirit is the reason why the club is riding high at the moment.

The Brazilians top the Absa Premiership log with 23 points after 11 matches so far this season despite losing twice already. Kennedy Mweene, who only joined the Pretoria-based side in the start of the current season, says things are going well at the club because of the good mood in the dressing room.

“The team spirit is what we have in the squad.” The 29-year old shot-stopper said in interview with Soccer-Laduma. “There is nothing that works better than having a team spirit. All players work hard for each other and in that way the team benefits.

The former Free State Stars goal minder has already won the heart of his coach Pitso Mosimane as he is rated as the first choice ahead of Wayne Sandilans. “I didn’t really expect to be the number one goalkeeper from the word go, but I happy that my hard work is paying off and I won’t rest on my laurels because they are other three world class  goalkeepers in the squad.” Added Mweene

Mamelodi Sundowns next visit rivals Supersport United on the 16th of November and Afcon Nations Cup winner with Zambia says they won’t put themselves under unnecessary pressure because of being the leaders.

“The league here in South Africa is tough and I believe the only way to make things easier for us is by taking each game as it comes. We will fight hard to maintain our top of the log position but we don’t have put ourselves under pressure because it’s still early days in the season.” Concluded the Zambian international
