Alfred Bruce Morris was born in Pensacola, Florida on December 12, 1988. A running back for the Washington Redskins, he holds the franchise's all-time rushing record for a single season and was ranked at number 64 in the annual NFL Top 100 Players list in 2013.
Morris attended Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, where he excelled at both football and basketball. He eventually committed to playing college football at Florida Atlantic University and made his debut for the team in 2008. Morris' 2009 sophomore season proved to be the best of his college career, as he rushed for a total of 1,392 yards and averaged 5.3 yards per carry, while contributing 11 touchdowns. Over the course of the season, he recorded four 100 yard games.
During the 2012 NFL Draft, Morris was picked up by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round and subsequently signed a four-year contract with the franchise. Despite being tipped to play a backup role, he was announced as the team's starting running back ahead of the opening game of the season, having impressed with the quality of his preseason performances.
His rookie season was a huge success, as he rushed for a total of 1,613 yards and 13 touchdowns. In the process, he set a new all-time Redskins record for rushing yards in a single season and became the Redskins rookie to score the most touchdowns in a season. Additionally, his rushing yards total made him the fourth player in the history of the NFL to rush for more than 1,600 during a rookie year. Morris' efforts helped the Redskins to win the NFC East Division Title and clinch a playoff berth for the first time in five seasons. His performances saw him named second team All-Pro and voted as the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week on three occasions.
Although he was unable to scale the same heights in the 2013 season, Morris enjoyed another solid year, recording a total of 1,275 rushing yards, which saw him ranked 4th in the league. Having initially been selected as an alternate, he went on to make the first Pro Bowl appearance of his career at the end of the season.
