About Amkar Perm'

Football Club Amkar Perm was founded in the city of Perm in 1993. After playing amateur football, the club finally gained professional status two years later and made their debut in the Russian Second Division in 1995.

The 1995 season brought about an impressive beginning to professional football for the club and, after putting in some assured displays, they finished the season as league runners up. Over the coming years, another two 2nd place finishes followed before the club stormed to the Second Division title in 1998, scoring 100 goals and dropping few points along the way. Amkar Perm took little time in establishing themselves in the First Division and put together a string of impressive top half finishes.

Finally, in 2003, the club pipped Kuban Krasnodar to win the First Division title and gain promotion to the Russian Premier League for the first time. Upon reaching the Premier League, the club avoided relegation for several seasons, occasionally by the skin of their teeth. However, Amkar Perm were the surprise package of the 2008 Premier League season, winning almost half of their matches and finishing the season in 4th place. It remains the club's best ever league performance.

Konstantin Paramonov is the club's record goal scorer and the striker was the club's top scorer in every single year from 1996 until 2003, making him instrumental in the team's rise to the Russian Premier League. Other notable players to play for Amkar Perm include names like Nikola Drincic, Georgi Peev and Alexei Popov.

The team currently play their home matches at the Zvezda Stadium in Perm, which was previously known as Lenin Komsomol Stadium. The ground first opened in 1969 and currently holds a maximum of 17,000 supporters for Amkar Perm's matches. In 2005, the stadium's turf was changed from grass to an artificial turf.
