The wait is over, and for some teams that wait has lingered on for nearly a century. Today Football.com unveils some long overdue NFL helmet redesigns for a select handful of the oldest NFL franchises. If you follow my articles on the site, you'll know that many of these teams fall into the category I labeled as the "Alphabet Offenders" — those teams that just couldn't come up with anything other than letters for their helmet designs. All the designs come courtesy of Milwaukee-based artists Jason Untiedt and Jake Rathkamp. As die-hard NFL fans, they gladly accepted the challenge. You be the judge on how successful they were in taking NFL helmets to the next level.
Leading off is the oldest of all NFL clubs, the Chicago Bears. Forget the big C and break out the claws.
Today's graphic and printing technologies should be able to be able to convincingly rip up the side of the helmet with razor-sharp bear claws. A bit more fitting for the Monsters of the Midway, no?
