Bio

Andre Ellington is a second-year running back for the Arizona Cardinals. He was a three-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer at Clemson University and ranks fourth on the school’s all-time rushing yards list.

Early Years

Ellington was born on February 3, 1989 in Moncks Corner, SC and starred as a running back and kick returner at Berkeley High School. During his senior season, he rushed for 1,822 yards and 24 touchdowns while adding four touchdowns as a return specialist. He eclipsed the 2,500 all-purpose yard mark and was labeled the sixth best running back prospect in the country by ESPN. He chose to attend Clemson University to play at the next level over Florida, Georgia, and a host of other schools.

Clemson University

Ellington received a redshirt in 2008, but emerged as a contributor for the Tigers as a freshman in 2009 with 546 total yards from scrimmage. He was named Second-Team All-ACC as a sophomore after rushing for 686 yards on 118 carries and scoring 10 touchdowns. He again earned second-team all-conference honors in 2011 as a junior after rushing for 1,178 yards and scoring 11 touchdowns. Another 1,000 yard season in 2012 pushed him up to fourth on the school’s all-time rushing yards list and he earned First-Team All-ACC honors.

Arizona Cardinals

A poor performance at the NFL combine caused Ellington’s draft stock to slip, and the Arizona Cardinals selected him with the 187th overall pick in the sixth round. He opened his rookie season as the primary backup to Rashard Mendenhall, but he became a key component to Arizona’s offense as the season progressed. He wrapped up his first season with 652 rushing yards and nearly 400 yards receiving while scoring four total touchdowns.
