Antoine Winfield just can’t stay away from the game. ESPN’s Josina Anderson reports that Winfield is working out in Houston, and he’s mulling a return to the field “for the right situation.”
This isn’t all that surprising considering he never officially filed his retirement papers. Perhaps he was waiting it out, seeing what team made the most sense and had a role for him to fill. While it’s a long season, after three weeks, we now have a better picture of how each conference may shake out.
Winfield retired after he was released by the Seattle Seahawks, but that shouldn’t be an indictment of his abilities as a player. He was very effective last year despite his age, and he could certainly help a needy secondary out.
His old team, the Minnesota Vikings, could use his services. However, it’s doubtful that Minnesota is “the right situation” with the team currently in an 0-3 hole. Winfield will likely only be working out for a contender.
