Argentina Primera Division Wrap: Newell's claim top spot
Newell's Old Boys have moved top of the Argentina Primera Division with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Olimpo.
Former Juventus striker David Trezeguet and Liverpool attacker Maxi Rodriguez were on the scoresheet as Alfredo Berti's men went top.
But it only came after promoted Olimpo, who stunned Boca Juniors for their first win of the season last time out, took a shock 36th-minute lead through Damian Musto.
Trezeguet equalised seven minutes after half-time as a neat team move led to the Frenchman tapping into an open net after a cutback from Victor Figueroa.
It was a similar move which led to Rodriguez's goal but the 32-year-old was dragged down in the area in the lead-up.
Rodriguez stepped up to convert the penalty, firing down the middle as Nereo Champagne dived to his left.
Argentinos Juniors gave up top spot after being thrashed 4-0 by sixth-placed Lanus.
Lautaro Acosta, Santiago Silva, Leandro Somoza and Lucas Melano were on the scoresheet as the hosts claimed a huge win.
Arsenal and San Lorenzo sit second and third respectively after playing out draws.
River Plate held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the latter's Estadio Julio Humberto Grondona, while San Lorenzo drew 0-0 at home to Godoy Cruz.
Racing Club remain winless and anchored to the bottom of the table after being beaten 2-0 at Boca Juniors.
Juan Sanchez Mino and Emanuel Gigliotti scored as Boca rebounded from their shock loss to Olimpo to move into seventh.
Jorge Correa's 75th-minute goal was enough for Gimnasia La Plata in their 1-0 win at home to Colon, while Atletico Rafaela overcame Estudiantes by the same score line.
Belgrano were 3-0 winners at home to Velez Sarsfield and Mauro Matos' hat-trick led All Boys to a 4-0 thrashing of Quilmes, who were reduced to 10 men late on when Luciano Abecasis was sent off.
In a clash between two struggling sides, Tigre scored twice in the second half to beat Rosario Central 2-0.
