Aston Villa is one of the oldest clubs in world football having being founded in 1874. They joined Football League in 1888 becoming one of the founding members.
In 1992 they became founding members of the Premier League and they have remained in the top flight of English football ever since.
Aston Villa is the fourth most successful club in the history of English football with 20 major honours to their name placing them behind Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal Football Club.
The clubs most successful period was between 1894 and 1900 when they won five league titles and three FA Cup’s. The last time the Villains won the league was in 1981. They followed up that victory in 1982 by beating Bayern Munich in the final of the European Cup (UEFA Champions League) thanks to a 2nd half Peter Withe goal becoming one of five English clubs to have lifted Europe’s top honour.
The last trophy the club won in 1996 when they beat Manchester United in the League Cup final.
The club is currently owned by America Randy Lerner and managed by Paul Lambert.
Villa Park has been the home of Aston Villa since 1897. It has a capacity of 42,788 however there are plans to redevelop the stadium boosting the capacity to approximately 50,000. Villa Park is a UEFA 5-star rated stadium.
