Atletico plot Negredo swoop
May 25, 2013 11:41 AM EST
Atletico Madrid executive Gil Marin has admitted the club could replace star striker Radamel Falcao with Sevilla's Alvaro Negredo.
Atletico, who defeated archrivals Real Madrid to win the Copa del Rey earlier this month, are facing the prospect of losing their talismanic Colombia striker to one of Europe's heavyweight clubs.
According to Marin, the Atletico board are already planning for the forward's departure by setting their sights on Sevilla's Spain international striker Negredo.
"It is my obligation to look at the market," Marin told ABC.
"Falcao leaving the club is an important possibility, therefore I have to advise and ask to speak with different people.
"And yes, I spoke with (Sevilla president) Jose Maria del Nido. I said to him that if we get rid of Falcao, we were thinking about Negredo.
"We will talk about it at the end of the season. There is enough time to assess what is suitable for all parties. Up front Negredo is one of the options presented to us by the market. We all know what level he is at."
The Spanish striker, whose contract runs out in 2016, has netted 26 times in 40 appearances for Sevilla this season.
