Big Chance for Magee
By Johnathan Neumann
Recently crowned MLS MVP, Mike Magee has a big chance in what is essentially an afterthought for most. The USMNT January camp has been a springboard for players in the past, and Magee has a chance to continue that run with a good showing that culminates in a friendly against Korea Republic.
As many know at this point, leading front man Jozy Altidore has not had the best run at Sunderland. While there has always been good competition behind him in the form of Aron Johannsson and Terrence Boyd just to name two. None of those are here, and Magee is. If he can even remotely rekindle that form in front of Jurgen Klinsmann, that will go a long way in him getting a look with the full squad in March.
The reigning MVP probably has the most to gain at this camp considering the USMNT's goalscoring woes before Altidore went on his tear. If he is unable to recapture that magic, someone is going to have to step up. This is an opportunity for Magee to throw his name in the hat.
