The prevailing opinion in Kansas City is Dwayne Bowe will be back to his Pro Bowl ways thanks to Alex Smith. This could very probably be true. In his six seasons for the Chiefs, Bowe has had to work with some shaky quarterbacks. Even though he mostly caught passes from Matt Cassel, Bowe has also spent time on the field with Damon Huard, Brodie Croyle, Tyler Thigpen, Brady Quinn, Tyler Palko, and Kyle Orton. Quite the murderer's row.
Alex Smith is a much more talented quarterback than anybody else Bowe has caught passes from. It's quite understandable why the excitement level is high for this combination. Bowe's play should elevate, thanks to the more competent quarterback play of Smith. But more importantly, Bowe is the best receiver Smith has ever had the option of throwing to. It is very possible Bowe’s performance can improve over his career year of 2010, the season that sent him to the Pro Bowl. But I think it's much more likely Smith will have the bigger uptick in performance.
