Brandon Pettigrew is a tight end for the Detroit Lions. He caught 83 passes in the 2011 season which was ranked eighth in the league in total receptions.
Pettigrew was born in Tyler Texas on February 23, 1985. He attended and played football at Robert E. Lee High School. He garnered enough attention to earn a scholarship playing collegiate football at Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Pettigrew played in all four of his years at Oklahoma State. He accumulated 112 receptions, 1,450 yards and nine touchdowns in his collegiate career. His resume propelled him into being a first-round draft pick in 2009.
The Detroit Lions drafted Pettigrew as the 20th overall pick in the 2009 draft after choosing Matthew Stafford with the first overall pick. Pettigrew and Stafford would build their chemistry on the field as seasons progressed. In Pettigrew’s second season, he started in all 16 games, caught 71 passes for 722 yards and four touchdowns. He was able to replicate his performance in the following season with over 700 yards receiving. Pettigrew has been a viable threat second to WR Calvin Johnson on the Lions roster.
Detroit has been unable to keep a number two receiver opposite Johnson for consecutive seasons since the 2009 draft. However, tight end Pettigrew has been a consistent receiving target for Stafford for five seasons.
