Benson Mayowa, LB

Benson who? You might not know the name of this young linebacker, but Pete Carroll sure knows this 252-pound pass-rusher very well.

Coming out of the University of Idaho, the undrafted free agent started taking reps with the first team since Chris Clemons is recovering from surgery and Cliff Avril is out with a hamstring injury.

Mayowa impressed with his speed and size, and quickly started tacking snaps with the first-team defense. He performed very well against the Chargers in the preseason opener — two solo tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks, while getting to the quarterback a team-high three times — and he definitely caught the eye of Seattle fans.

"Any time anybody can get some activity in the pass-rush on the edge, boy, we get excited about that," Carroll said. "He’s an exciting player.”

Benson still has to conquer a place with the starters, but look carefully at him to develop into a potential Pro-Bowl player.
