CAF Champions League: Esperance warm up for semis with win
Sep 21, 2013 4:52 PM EST
CAF Champions League Group B winners Esperance Tunis wrapped up their qualification campaign with a 2-1 victory over Cotonsport.
The two sides were already guaranteed to finish in first and second respectively before the clash, but it was the visitors who warmed up for the semi-final in style as two goals in the first 24 minutes from Khaled Gharsellaoui and Ahmed Akaichi gave them the win.
Daouda Kamilou pulled a goal back late on, but the Tunisians - two-time winners of the competition - held on for their fifth victory in a row in the Champions League.
Both sides' semi-final opponents will be decided on Sunday, as Zamalek host Congolese hopefuls Leopards de Dolosie, while current champions Al Ahly travel to South Africans Orlando Pirates.
All four sides could still qualify for the next phase, with six points separating bottom side Zamalek and leaders Al Ahly.
In Saturday's other game in Group B, Recreativo do Libolo and Sewe Sport played out a 2-2 draw, with all four goals coming in the first half.
Joao Tomas opened the scoring for the hosts after just four minutes, knocking home from Nuno Silva's pass, before Idrissa Halidou equalised four minutes later.
Silva then put Libolo back on top from the penalty spot after 11 minutes, only for Souleymane Binate to level the scores again just before the break.
The draw meant that Sewe moved up a place to third, finishing ahead of bottom side Libolo on goal difference.
