Iker Casillas Fernández, commonly known as Iker Casillas, was born in Móstoles, Madrid on 20 May 1981. A legendary figure at both club and international level, he is known for his superb agility, rapid reflexes and strong leadership and is generally regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time. He was named in the UEFA Team of the Year six years in a row, starting in 2007, and has been named in the FIFA/FIFPro World XI on a total of five occasions.

Having joined Real Madrid's youth academy in 1990, Casillas worked his way through the ranks, playing for for the club's 'C' and 'B' teams.
