Christian Hackenberg is a quarterback for the Pennsylvania State University Nittany Lions of the Big Ten Conference.

High School

Hackenberg went to Fork Union Military Academy where he was an Under Armour All-American. Hackenberg was rated as the number one quarterback in the nation and a five star prospect by Scout.com. He threw for 2,144 yards during his senior season and tossed 24 touchdown passes while running for 436 yards and three TD’s. Hackenberg led Fork Union to a state runner-up finish in 2012 and a state title in 2010 as just a sophomore.  Over the course of three seasons Hackenberg threw for just under 5,500 yards and 55 touchdowns.

College

Hackenberg became the second true freshman quarterback since 1911 at Penn State to start the team’s opening game. He went on to have an excellent season, finishing as a consensus second team freshman All-American, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors five times and earning the conference’s Freshman of the Year award at the end of the season. He was selected as an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten. Hackenberg threw for 2,955 yards as a freshman, the third-most single-season passing yards in program history, and 20 touchdowns. His 231 completions were second in the Big Ten and he tallied 14 completions of 40 yards or more, the seventh most in the country.

Overall, Hackenberg broke 10 Penn State freshman passing records. Entering 2014, Hackenberg was named a 3rd Team All-Big Ten pre-season selection by Phil Steele.
