After receiving All-Big 12 honors the last two seasons, Chucky Hunter has established himself as one of the league’s top defensive linemen with the TCU Horned Frogs. At 6-1, 305 pounds, he has shown a unique ability to be a run stopper while also putting pressure on the quarterback. In 2012 and 2013, his efforts earned him second-team post-season honors in the Big 12. He led the Horned Frogs’ defensive linemen in tackles in 2013 with 43 and will be counted on to help solidify a defense that could be something special in 2014.
Coming out of West Monroe High School in West Monroe, La., Hunter was a four-star recruit and ranked the 27th best defensive tackle in the nation and No. 3 overall recruit out of Louisiana. A Class 5A first-team all-state selection as a senior, he was named Louisiana’s Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year after recording 82 tackles, 18 for loss and five sacks.
As a true freshman in 2011, Hunter appeared in all 12 games and became the first TCU true freshman to start a game since 2007 when he got the call against Portland State. He tallied 18 tackles and 2.5 for loss in his freshman campaign. In 2012, he played in all 13 games, including starts in the final nine to earn a spot on the All-Big 12 second team. Had 36 total tackles, including six for losses and 3.5 sacks. In 2013, he was again at second-team All-Big 12 selection after adding six tackles for loss and two sacks.
