“It’s difficult, but I guess that’s the job…. Because it was not just Edson [Buddle] today, it was Deshorn [Brown] yesterday and almost [Dillon] Powers, who got 40 stitches in his head yesterday afternoon…. But you guys know that I don’t make excuses. We’ve gotta push.”
- Oscar Pareja, Colorado Rapids Head Coach
The Colorado Rapids dropped a 1-0 result to Seattle Sounders FC on Saturday afternoon at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, with Obafemi Martins scoring the game’s only goal off a rebound in the 27th minute. The Rapids had more shots, crosses, and possession, but hit the woodwork several times and could not find an equalizer.
The Rapids were without several players due to injury, with Deshorn Brown suffering a strained quad in practice on Friday, Edson Buddle exiting due to knee pain during the pregame warm-ups, and Marvell Wynne leaving in the 55th minute with a quad strain. Those players join a long list of Colorado players already out, including Diego Calderón, Jaime Castrillón, Kevin Harbottle, Pablo Mastroeni, Matt Pickens, and Martín Rivero. Rookie midfielder Dillon Powers played the full 90 minutes despite suffering a laceration above his right eye in practice on Friday, which required 40 stitches to close.
