Jaguars Trade LT Eugene Monroe To Ravens
The move certainly caught most around the league off guard, and this more or less signals that the Jaguars are waving the white flag and looking toward the future to rebuild the team. However, Monroe is only 26 years old, and he certainly qualifies as a building block. Luke Joeckel, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 draft, will now slide over into the left tackle position.
Monroe is one of the better left tackles in the NFL, and he offers an immediate upgrade over veteran Bryant McKinnie, who has struggled this season. In a contract year, Monroe could find a home well beyond this season in Baltimore if he plays well. He’ll certainly be looking for that big payday after coming off his rookie contract, and expect him to be rejuvenated moving from the winless Jaguars and over to the reigning Super Bowl champions.
If the trade is really for two mid-round draft picks, as reported by Albert Breer of NFL.com, this could end up being a steal for GM Ozzie Newsome. Monroe has the potential to be a young franchise left tackle for the Ravens, and this could make a big difference for QB Joe Flacco and their struggling offense.
