Galaxy Looking to Regain Momentum Against Sounders

The Los Angeles Galaxy were rolling along quite nicely for a while there.

Bruce Arena's squad managed to rack up quite a few points during an undefeated streak that lasted eight matches.

It was almost as if the team had forgotten what it was like to lose since the last defeat that it suffered was all the way back in mid-May against the Houston Dynamo.

But then came the matchup with Sporting Kansas City last Saturday in which LA fell 2-1.

That certainly hurt the team's flow a bit, but perhaps not in the same way that the 7-0 trouncing at the hands of Manchester United did in a friendly on Wednesday.

Sure, it was just a nice little friendly match for both sides. But still, suffering that type of defeat can definitely affect the confidence of any team.

So there's certainly no doubting the importance of tonight's match at CenturyLink Field in Seattle against the top team in the MLS. The Sounders continue to sit atop the Western Conference having suffered only one loss since May 11.

Honestly though, this match is more about the Galaxy than it is the Sounders.

Los Angeles can't afford to let the recent results determine the future. This team had started to find a groove before falling to a tough Sporting KC team, and it needs to find a way to get that back.

Considering the closeness of the teams in the middle of the Western Conference, all Landon Donovan and company need is to string together a few more victories, and in turn, the Galaxy will find itself in a much better position in the league table.

However, the other side of that is that with continued struggles, a spiral down the standings is certainly a possibility.

This is probably as crucial of a match that LA has had in a while. With a pretty favorable schedule on the horizon after this match, the Galaxy could without question make up some serious ground. Upcoming matches against Portland, San Jose, and Columbus should give Arena a chance to continue to tweak certain things with this squad.

Will Arena's side rise to the occasion? Or will the Sounders continue their consistent run at the top?

If the Galaxy want to return to previous form, it needs to come through and take over the national spotlight by topping the league's best.
