Villa signs for New York City
David Villa has signed for new MLS franchise New York City, making him their first player.
The striker, Spain's record goalscorer at international level, joins New York from Atletico Madrid after one season at the Vicente Calderon in which he won a third La Liga title of his career.
Villa contributed 13 goals in 36 league appearances, and made seven outings in Atletico's run to the UEFA Champions League final.
He is widely expected to be joined in New York by Chelsea and England midfielder Frank Lampard.
