Fulham fight to stay up, while Tottenham's slide down the ladder continues

Fulham continue their fight to remain in the Premier League after defeating Norwich City 1-0. The Cottagers knew that after last weeks win they have given themselves a lifeline to remain in the EPL, so a victory against Norwich was a must. Norwich City though were looking to prove they made the right decision to replace their manager this late in the season was a good idea. Though the result does not mirror that choice.

Fulham celebrate as they move to within two points of clearing the relegation zone

Norwich kicked the game off applying the early pressure on Fulham. They pressed high up the pitch and tried to keep the pressure on Fulham's midfield and defenders. Fulham did well to absorb the pressure and kept their cool, as they moved the ball around the pitch in their own half. The first 20 minutes saw a tough battle by both teams in the centre of the ground and limit each other with shots from distance. Though Fulham started to push higher up the pitch and start to control the game as the minutes ticked over. Though this left them open for the counter attack and Norwich almost managed to take advantage as they broke down the left wing. A dangerous cross in saw Wolfswinkel catch it on the run just outside the 6 yard box, but Stockdale would make a great reaction save to parry it out for a corner kick. Then two chances in a row saw Fer's header cleared off the line and then the follow up shot by Johnson go agonisingly wide of the post. Norwich looking threatening but it was Fulham that would take the lead going into the halftime break. A free kick from the right side would find Rodallega who punished the Nowrich defence for not picking up his run and he would side foot the ball into the back of the net, sending Craven Cottage into a huge roar.

Norwich came out strong in the second half and should have had their equaliser soon after kick off. Snodgrass found himself with a great chance as he slid in to get a crucial touch as the ball was played across the six yard box, though the pressure from Hettinga and Hangeland was enough to see the ball go the wrong side of the post. Fulham though would hold on for the 1-0 win and now find themselves only two points behind Norwich as they battle to remain in the EPL.

Tottenham's poor form continued as they had to fight back against West Bromwich Albion to salvage a 3-3 draw. West Brom got the best start they could have ever hoped for taking the lead in the first minute. A good run down the right side caught The Spurs asleep and a a great ball played in saw Vydra, unmarked inside the box, catch the ball on the volley as he blasted the home side ahead after only one minute of play. Though West Brom weren't done yet as only minutes later Chris Brunt would double the home sides advantage. Another great run down the right side exposed Tottenham's defence and this time the ball sailed all the way to the back post where the returning Brunt met it square on the volley with his left foot and made it 2-0 after only four minutes!

Tottenham looked in shambles at the back as West Brom marched on to what was looking to be a blowout win. The Baggies then slightly relaxed as they knew Tottenham had it all to do and looked to catch the London side on the counter attack. Then Tottenham were given a lifeline as Danny Rose was judged to have been fouled inside the box. The replay though showed that possibly Rose made the most of the touch as it did look soft. Adebayor would step up and with his recent goal scoring form, especially after his double against Sunderland last week you would have been sure it was going into the back of the net. His penalty though was soft and easily held by the safe hands of Ben Foster. This would be a costly mistake for Adebayor and Tottenham as West Brom would make it 3-0 only minutes after the penalty save. The ball was played long out of the West Brom defence, a poor back header by Kaboul saw Sessegnon get free of his marker and from the top of the box he slotted the ball below Lloris and gave West Brom a 3 goal advantage.

Tottenham then finally woke up and started to push up and look to get themselves back in the game. Paulinho then made a great run down the right side and as he made his way into the box he fired in a low pass across the six yard box looking to catch Adebayor as he made a run. The ball would be intercepted by Olsson as he slid in to stop it reaching Adebayor. Unluckily for him it would deflect off him and over the keeper and into the back of his own net. 3-1 as the half finished but Tottenham still with it all to do to get a result from the game. The second half saw West Brom protect their goal well. Tottenham dominated the possession as West Brom sat back and invited the pressure. Kane managed give Tottenham some hope as he found the back of the net in the 70th minute. Lennon made a good run down the right side and managed to get past the defender and into the box. He looked up and spotted three Spurs' players inside the 6 yard box and crossed it in. Kane rose well and headed home from close range. 3-2 as Tottenham now had 20 minutes left to get a result from the game. They pushed forward but some desperate and tough defending by West Brom proved too hard to break down. Though Tottenham would not lose hope and Eriksen would get the much needed goal deep into injury time. The ball found him at the far post, he took a touch and brought the ball back to his right foot and fired into the top right corner of the net. 3-3 in the end as West Brom once again fail to hold on in a game they should have won.

The other matches saw Stoke City defeat Newcastle United 1-0, Sunderland lose 1-0 to Everton. While Crystal Palace would also get a late winner to beat Aston Villa 1-0 and also this round saw Cardiff City get a rare away win beating Southampton 1-0.
