James Franklin to Penn State has left Vanderbilt recruiting in a stage of uncertainity with three weeks remaining until signing day. The latest is defensive end Michael Sawyers. Sawyers has been committed to the Commodores for more than six months, but he’s one of several Vanderbilt commitments who have decided to explore other options since Franklin's departure.
Tennessee, Syracuse, UCLA and South Carolina all offered him not only two days after Franklin left, and he’s currently in the process of setting up official visits. Tennessee will get the last impression as Sawyers visits Vandy's in-state rival the weekend of Jan. 31, the final weekend before signing day.
This is a prime example of how coaches are always paying attention on the recruiting trail.
