Tennessee Spring Ball: Practice #13

Apr 10, 2014 8:29 PM EST

Tennessee practiced for the 13th time this spring Thursday.

It was a nice day at Haslam Field and Tennessee had a good practice, but the quarterback play is still not up to par to Butch Jones' liking.

“I was really disappointed today in the overall (quarterback) position,” Jones said. “I didn’t think one quarterback really stood out amongst them.”

It's all about becoming the alpha male - the captain, the leader. And who will fulfill this role heading into fall camp?

“Again, we’re looking for the alpha male,” Jones said. “We’re looking for the individual who comes out (and leads). Playing quarterback at Tennessee’s not a sometimes thing. It’s an all-the-time thing, just the overall command.

“Out of all the individuals, I thought Riley had more leadership that any of them, but not by our standard to which we’re gonna play quarterback here at Tennessee.”

The quarterbacks will get one more practice session tomorrow afternoon and then the spring game before fall camp arrives - and that is when time becomes crucial on determining a quarterback.

*NOTE - Tennessee has canceled their Friday practice, what would have been the 14th of spring, and will take the day off before Saturday's spring game.
