Lanus secured a crucial away goal in a 1-1 draw at Ponte Preta in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final on Wednesday.
In an even contest, the deadlock was broken in the 58th minute courtesy of a long-range free-kick from Lanus' Paolo Goltz.
Goltz lined up the set piece from 28 metres and his curled shot wrong-footed Ponte Preta keeper Roberto Tigrao.
But Ponte Preta fought back and equalised on 79 minutes through Fellipe Bastos' free-kick that deceived the keeper in flight over the wall.
Both teams had chances in the dying stages but poor finishing means the scores remained deadlocked.
The second leg of the final will be played in Lanus on December 11.
