Redding was born on November 15, 1980 in Houston, Texas. He played linebacker for North Shore High School in Galena Park, Texas. As a senior, Redding had 103 solo tackles, 15 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and four interceptions on his way to being named the nation’s top linebacker and the Texas Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year.

At the University of Texas, Redding played in every game in his four-year career. He made 35 consecutive starts on the defensive line.
He finished his college career with 201 tackles, 21 sacks, and 53 tackles for a loss on his way to being named a two-time All-Big 12 Conference player.
Redding was drafted in the third round (66th-overall) in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Lions.
In his six seasons with Detroit, Redding split time at defensive end and defensive tackle. His best season came in 2006 when he had a career-high 47 tackles and eight sacks in 16 starts. He finished his stint with Detroit with 16 sacks and four forced fumbles.
Redding was traded to the Seahawks on March 14, 2009. He finished his one season with the team with 20 tackles and two sacks in 15 games (three starts).
On March 22, 2010, Redding signed a two-year contract with the Ravens. In 11 starts during the 2010 NFL Season, Redding had 42 tackles, three sacks, and his first career interception.
Redding signed with the Colts on March 14, 2012.
In two seasons with the team, he has made 29 starts and had 6.5 sacks, including one for a safety.
