Cowboys DE Anthony Spencer Has Setback
The Dallas Cowboys may be without DE Anthony Spencer for the team’s Week 1 matchup on Sunday night against the New York Giants due to a setback. There was swelling in his knee over the weekend, and Spencer has been kept out of practice as a result, per Ed Werder of ESPN.
Spencer was limited to conditioning in practice earlier today, and his chances of playing this weekend are looking very slim. Whether he’s even able to suit up for Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs is in question at this point.
Spencer’s absence will have a notable impact on the team’s battered defensive line, and the timing couldn’t be worse with David Wilson and Eli Manning up first, followed by Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs’ revamped offense behind coach Andy Reid.
Dallas can only hope that he’s able to play, even if it’s only in limited fashion, this Sunday. The Giants are undefeated at the newly-named AT&T Stadium, and this important division matchup could have major playoff implications down the line if the NFC East crown is still up for grabs by season’s end.
