Bio

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, known as Cristiano Ronaldo, was born on 5 February 1985 in Funchal, Madeira. He is considered one of the best players in the world today and is widely regarded as one of the most talented footballers ever. Ronaldo can play as either a striker or winger and is known for his pace, power, creativity, flair, finishing and free kick ability. In 2009, his transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid for £80 million made him the most expensive player in the world.

After starting his professional career with Sporting CP, Ronaldo soon caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson and moved to Manchester United in 2003. He was given the number 7 jersey, made famous by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham and quickly drew attention for his quick feet and silky skills. As his body became more muscular, Ronaldo's style of play became more direct and in the 2007-08 season, he scored 42 goals in all competitions as United won the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. Later in 2008, he became the first player based in the Premier League to be named as FIFA World Player of the Year and also collected the Ballon d'Or and FIFPro World Player of the Year awards.

In the summer of 2009, Ronaldo transferred to Real Madrid and scored 33 goals in 35 games in all competitions during his first season with the side. Over subsequent years, his goalscoring record would continue to improve and in 2011-12, he scored 60 goals in 55 games as the team finished top of La Liga. In 2013, he became the fastest player to reach 150 La Liga goals and at the end of the calendar year, he was awarded the FIFA Ballon d'Or.

Ronaldo has earned over 100 caps for Portugal and helped them to the final of UEFA Euro 2004. He was named as his country's captain in 2008.
