Dakota “Dak” Prescott is a quarterback for the Mississippi State University Bulldogs of the Southeastern Conference.
Prescott led Haughton High School in Louisiana to an undefeated regular season and a trip to the Class 4A state quarterfinals in 2010. He was a three-star prospect coming out of high school according to both Rivals and Scout.
Prescott enrolled early at Mississippi State in the spring of 2011 and redshirted that fall. The duel-threat quarterback was used by the Bulldogs as a short-yardage and redzone quarterback in 2012. He ran for four touchdowns and also threw for four touchdowns that season. He completed 18-29 passes for 194 yards and was not picked off. Prescott’s first career touchdown pass came in a victory over the Tennessee Volunteers. He appeared in the Gator Bowl against Northwestern, rushing twice for a total of 20 yards in the Bulldogs’ 34-20 defeat.
Prescott impressed as a sophomore in 2013 while dealing with injuries and playing alongside Tyler Russell at quarterback. He started seven games but was unable to play against Alabama or Arkansas due to an elbow injury he sustained against Texas A&M. Prescott threw for 1,940 yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for a team-high 829 yards and 13 touchdowns. He shined against Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl in 2013.
Having not played in the previous two games due to injury, he entered the contest in the fourth quarter and threw for 115 yards before scoring the game-winning touchdown in overtime in a 17-10 victory. Prescott was named the MVP of the Liberty Bowl in a 44-7 win over Rice. He set a bowl record with five touchdowns, three through the air, two on the ground. He set a career high with 283 passing yards and also ran for 78 yards in the bowl victory. Prescott was named to the 2013 SEC Academic Honor Roll.
