Bio

Dee Milliner is entering his second season with the New York Jets, a quick study not lacking in confidence. Milliner’s 17 passes defensed ranked second among NFL rookies, with three interceptions on the year. The Jets have big expectations for Milliner in 2014, a view he seems capable of handling, judging by his words. “The best corner in the league? Me,” Milliner recently told the New York Daily News. “I ain’t gonna say that somebody else is better than me.”

Early Years & College

Milliner was born in Deatsville, Ala., on Sept. 14, 1991. He attended Elmore High where he was regarded as the No.1 cornerback prospect in the country. Milliner, consensus first-team All-State, made 71 tackles as a senior while picking off three passes and breaking up eight more, in limited opportunities. After graduating, Milliner went to the University of Alabama where he played in all 13 games as a true freshman and fought for playing time. In three years at Alabama, Milliner collected six interceptions in 29 starts, with a staggering 1.67 passes defensed as a senior.

New York Jets

The Jets selected Milliner in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft (ninth overall). Milliner, who underwent shoulder surgery before the draft, slipped a bit due to injury concerns and a poor showing at the combine. Once drafted, it didn’t take him long to earn the starting cornerback job with the Jets. Despite an up-and-down rookie season – he was benched on three separate occasions – Milliner finished strong, grabbing his first interception in Week 16 and earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month honors for December 2013.
