The Detroit Lions announced Tuesday they’ve moved rookie LB Kyle Van Noy to short-term injury reserve after undergoing surgery last Thursday on an abdominal injury. Van Noy will miss the first eight weeks of the season. Detroit is off Week 9, so the rookie will be eligible to return Nov. 9 against the Miami Dolphins.
Van Noy was being considered to start at strong side linebacker, but now the Lions will look to Tahir Whitehead to fill the spot. Ashlee Palmer, the starting strong-side linebacker last season, will be Whitehead’s backup. The Lions also re-signed defensive end Darryl Tapp, to complete their 53-man roster. Tapp was released on Saturday as part of the team’s final cuts.
