The Houston Dynamo and Santos Laguna of Mexico met up on Wednesday night in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series at Estadio Corona in Torreon, Mexico. The Dynamo had a 1-0 lead into Wednesday’s game but couldn’t keep it together while Santos went on to win 3-0. In order to win the series, Houston had to win, tie, or lose by one while scoring an away goal. Houston could have made the game go into a 30-minute extra time period if they could have held the score to 1-0, but they lost by more than two so Santos advances to the next round instead.
23rd minute: Juan Pablo Rodriguez’s penalty kick but scored on the rebound. 1-0 Santos (1-1 on aggregate).
28th minute: Herculez Gomez scores. 2-0 Santos (2-1 on aggregate).
77th minute: Marc Crosas delivered the final blow tipped off Tally Hall’s arm. 3-0 Santos (3-1 on aggregate).
Santos Laguna will go on to face the Seattle Sounders in the next round in early April. The match between FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo this Sunday at FC Dallas Stadium will be the only edition of the Texas Derby this season. The game starts 12pm CT on ESPN2.
