Dion Jordan is entering his second season with the Miami Dolphins after an up-and-down rookie season that saw him in mostly a part-time role. Jordan, an athletic hybrid defensive end, played in all 16 games for the Dolphins in 2013 but failed to make an official start. He finished with two sacks and just 26 combined tackles.
Early Years & College
Jordan was born in San Francisco, Calif., on March 5, 1990. He attended Chandler High where he played tight end and defensive end. Jordan, a four-star recruit, was an All-State and All-Region selection and averaged 9.2 tackles per game in 2007. He also caught 54 passes for 804 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. After graduating, Jordan went to the University of Oregon where he began his career as a reserve tight end and major contributor on special teams. In 2010, he switched to defensive end and quickly won over the coaching staff with his blistering speed. Jordan, a two-time All-Pac 12 selection (2011, 2012). In four collegiate seasons, Jordan collected 14.5 sacks, 73 solo tackles (29 for loss) and four forced fumbles.
The Dolphins selected Jordan in the first round of the 2013 NFL draft, with the third overall pick. Miami traded up with the Oakland Raiders, surrendering the 12th overall and 42nd overall picks to acquire the defensive end. Jordan, who ran a 4.54 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, made his NFL debut on Sept. 8, 2013 and recorded a sack in a 23-10 victory. After the season, one filled with mixed reviews, the Dolphins reportedly shopped their top pick with no success. On July 3, 2014, Jordan was suspended for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. He’ll miss the first four games of the 2014 regular season.
