In the last year of his rookie deal, Jones initially planned to sit out of OTAs after being left in the dust following Jeff Ireland’s offseason spending spree. However, Ireland promised to eventually discuss an extension, and Jones reported on the first day of OTAs.
Ireland made good on his word, and Jones has been handsomely rewarded by the organization. He’s one of the top 10 highest paid players at his position, and even though he was picked in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Jones has developed into one of the better safeties in the NFL.
The Dolphins will be counting on Jones to help anchor the Dolphins’ secondary as the team looks to turn their fortunes around this upcoming season.
