Don't Sleep On Missouri's WRs
Before we engorge ourselves in the one-sided debate between an unbeaten Ohio State and a one-loss Auburn, let's let this weekend play out.
Coach Gus Malzahn, Nick Marshall and company have a difficult matchup in Atlanta on Saturday against a Missouri team that most all of us have overlooked or doubted this season. But the SEC East's Tigers present a tough matchup for Auburn, and the boys from the Plains can't afford to overlook quarterback James Franklin and a pair of fantastic receivers in L'Damian Washington and Dorial Green-Beckham.
Auburn's secondary has been susceptible in each of its three biggest games (LSU, Texas A&M, Alabama), facing an NFL-caliber receiver prospect and allowing huge numbers to Jarvis Landry, Mike Evans and Amari Cooper, respectively.
LSU forced Auburn to cover two 1,000-yard receivers and was the only team to beat Malzahn's group this year.
Washington and Green-Beckham present a similar challenge with more than 1,500 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns combined.
Auburn's most effective defense may be to pressure James Franklin and see if he gets anxious trying to protect the shoulder that kept him out for more than a month earlier in the season.
Before the SEC West Tigers can dream about a BCS championship argument, they must first contain Washington and Green-Beckham this weekend and a Missouri team that's close to a pick 'em in Las Vegas.
