The San Jose Earthquakes have recently announced the re-signing of two new players. Defender Jordan Stewart and midfielder Shea Salinas were signed to new contracts on Feb. 2. The terms of the deals were not discussed by anyone involved.
Stewart has made 12 appearances with the Earthquakes and have assisted in maintaining a 7-2-3 record with seven shutouts when starting. Before joining San Jose, the defender made stops in 10 clubs including Premier League teams Leicester City and Watford.
Salinas led the Earthquakes with a career high eight assists last year. The six-year-veteran matched his season goal mark of two. Over the last two seasons, Salinas has made 47 appearances for the club.
This move bodes well for San Jose, who has to keep pace with Seattle Sounders and Real Salt Lake. Salinas could be a crucial component with his ability to make plays. With some lockdown defenses in the west, the ability to create scoring plays is crucial. What impact these players make will remain to be seen.
