Bio

Elvis Dumervil is a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens. He led the NFL with 17 sacks in the 2009 season and is a three-time Pro Bowler.

Early Life

Dumervil was born on January 19, 1984 in Miami Florida. He attended Miami Jackson High School and set a school record with 78 sacks throughout his high school playing career. He was recruited as a Top 25 defensive end when he committed to attend Louisville.

Louisville Cardinals

In Dumervil’s first two years at Louisville he made a slight impact on the defensive line and had somewhat of a breakout season in his junior year with 10 sacks. In his senior year he reached levels comparable to few collegiate defensive linemen. He broke an NCAA single-game record with six sacks against Kentucky in the first game of the 2005 season. He led the NCAA in forced fumbles and sacks. His defensive performance on the field was recognized as he was awarded the Bronko Nagurski Award and the Ted Hendricks Award.

Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos selected Dumervil in the fourth round of the 2006 draft. Comparisons to established NFL pass rusher Dwight Freeney were overwhelmed with concerns on his smaller 5’11 stature as a defensive end. Scouts were also weary of his lack of production at the end of his senior season. Though Dumervil didn’t start in his rookie season, he managed to make 8.5 sacks as a backup defensive end. In his second season as a starter he recorded 12.5 sacks. In his last three years in Denver he was a Pro Bowler and accumulated 37.5 sacks.

Baltimore Ravens

In 2013, Dumervil signed a five-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens. He started in three games as a linebacker and recorded 9.5 sacks.
