Instructional Video: FIFA 11+ Injury Prevention Program
If it's good enough for Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and Xabi Alonso, the FIFA 11+ warm-up program is certainly worth incorporating into the training regimes of our youth soccer players.
Football.com offers this instructional video as an aid to coaches looking to prevent injuries among their young players and keep them as fit as possible out where it counts on the field.
Dr Joseph Zappala, director of South West Health Professional Center in Costa Mesa, California, and a leading specialist in the treatment and management of sports injuries, gave an exclusive seminar for coaches at Strikers FC in Mission Viejo and ran four girls from the U-13 team - Jasper Adams, Gianna Christiansen, Mackenzie MacMillan and Macey Leonard - through the program.
The Strikers' Director of Coaching Abner Rogers has now sent a directive around all of his coaches to start using FIFA+ as part of warm-ups in training and before matches.
"Some big clubs have ensorsed this program, teams like Barcelona, Manchester United and Bayern Munich, so it makes sense that our coaches should incorporate it," said Rogers, former head coach of the LA Sol women’s professional soccer team.
The Strikers and Dr. Zappala also agreed to cooperate in a study to show the effectiveness of the 20-minute exercise routine.
"In my 28 years experience of sports medicine, the FIFA 11+ program covers much of what I have been saying all this time in regard to sports injuries," said Dr. Zappala. "It offers a great foundation for our athleles to build on."
