Christian LaCouture will be one of the two new big fellas clogging up the middle of the line in 2014. He and Quentin Thomas will replace Ego Ferguson and Anthony Johnson, who are now playing in the NFL. But no reason to fear, LaCouture will fill the void immediately.
He came in as a defensive end, but bulked up during the summer and was featured last season as a defensive tackle. Now sitting at about 300 pounds, LaCouture will be able to fill in the A and B gaps on a regular basis.
Last season, he racked up 11 tackles and a sack in only a couple of games that were mainly toward the end of the season, but showed glimpses of stardom disrupting plays in the backfield.
During the spring, he showed just how dominant he could be by pulling away from the other defensive tackles fighting for the two starting spots. With a quick first punch and the ability to shed blocks with finesse and power, LaCouture should be a household name within the first few weeks of the season.
