Football.com at Orange County Blues FC Home Opener
Excited youth soccer players flocked to register with Football.com and create their own Player Pages at the sell-out home opener for Orange County Blues FC on Saturday night.
The OC Blues began the 2016 USL regular season with a loss, going down 1-0 to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Both sides squandered opportunities but the visitors scored the only goal on 62 minutes.
Off the field, the fans had more to cheer.
Children of all ages lined the Football.com tent at Irvine’s Anteater Stadium. Players and entire teams also uploaded their pictures at a custom photo booth.
Visitors to the Football.com game center were shown there and then how to set up an exclusive Player Page showcasing their soccer career so far - enabling them to keep stats, highlight videos, action photos, freestyle footage and news articles all in one place for any college recruiting scout to see.
Every child in the 2,455 crowd also got a free Football.com soccer ball.
“The kids are having a blast,” said Jeff Rogers, of Costa Mesa, who visited the Football.com tent with his son, Jason, 13. “I’m really interested to see how Football.com can help with recruiting for club teams and colleges.
“My son is coming to the next Blues home game with a bunch of his pals and sign up.”
Clutching two Football.com Thunder Sticks, Brian Amaguchi, 12, said the free gifts - including a Football.com ball - had made his first ever soccer match “awesome.”
“I can’t wait for the next game,” he said. “My parents have promised me we will come again.”
“The highlight for me,” said Nicole Wahab, President of Football.com, “was seeing happy kids running around with our soccer balls and whole teams taking pictures. It was a fantastic event and a great hands-on opportunity for youth players to create their very own FREE professional profile pages.
“Our goal is to level the playing field for every youth soccer player, whatever their age or stage of development.”
The OC Blues Head Coach Oliver Wyss drafted in eight new players to start Saturday’s game with Brandon Miller, the reigning USL Goalkeeper of the Year, standing out with a series of top saves.
Despite coming close with a late shot by substitute Didier Crettenand that cannoned off the post, last year's Western Conference champions were unable to kick off the new season with a goal and looked second best for much of the match. Whitecaps striker Kyle Greig scored the match winner.
Football.com is a platform designed specifically for the youth sports community. There are two main goals of Football.com; the first goal of the platform is to allow youth players to track success and progress throughout their careers, gain attention from scouts, schools and sponsors, and to establish a professional online presence to help showcase their talent. The second goal of Football.com is to allow administrators of clubs and teams to manage financials, schedules, and calendars properly and effectively while increasing visibility among the governing bodies, leagues, clubs, teams and players.
Best of all, Football.com is 100% free.
