Four-Star South Carolina Recruit Headed To JUCO

South Carolina will have to wait a little longer for the player some have framed as the replacement for Jadeveon Clowney.

Four-star pass rusher and Gamecocks recruit Dante Sawyer, listed at 6-foot-3 and anywhere from 235 to 262 pounds, will have to attend junior college this fall after reportedly getting his GED and failing to qualify academically.

According to multiple websites, he'll attend East Mississippi Junior College in 2014 and transfer to the Gamecocks for 2015 with three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Though not considered an elite-level athlete like Clowney, recruiting analysts raved about his power and overall technique against the run and the pass. Depending on whose rankings you trust, Sawyer was perhaps South Carolina's second-best signee behind linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams, but he's been on the verge of not qualifying academically for a while, so this won't be a shock to coach Steve Spurrier and company.

Still, with Clowney and Chaz Sutton moving on, the Gamecocks have to replace both starting defensive ends and now will have to wait an extra year for one of its key potential replacements.
