Galliani relieved with Champions League spot
May 20, 2013 8:37 AM EST
Milan chief Adriano Galliani was relieved to seal qualification for the UEFA Champions League with a tight 2-1 win over Siena on Sunday.
Milan were trailing relegated Siena, before two goals in the last six minutes from Mario Balotelli and Philippe Mexes ensured they finished third ahead of Fiorentina.
And Galliani praised Siena for their application during Sunday's fixture.
"It was a very difficult game, Siena honoured the match by playing with maximum effort, as was right and as any team should do.
"It was very tough for us. Five or six minutes from time we were out of the UEFA Champions League, but then our two goals arrived.
"I'm surprised when you face teams that don't play, while Siena played their game with great effort and spirit and they were right to do so, so I have nothing against Siena, they gave it everything they had."
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Christian Abbiati confirmed has agreed a contract extension until the end of the 2013-14 season.
The 35-year-old's deal was due to expire in June, but will remain at the club for at least another year.
"I've renewed for one more season," Abbiati told Mediaset Premium.
"I'm very happy that I will be able to continue my adventure here."
