Gareth Bale. The man who has stolen all the headlines this summer, with constant speculation of a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
However, is the winger worth £85 million?
He netted 21 goals in 33 appearences, which is an impressive feat, with some spectacular goals included in that collection. But is one successful season enough to be worth a world record fee?
In my opinion, no. But, if he stayed at Tottenham for another season, he could improve his reputation before a move to Real Madrid.
The Welshman started his career as a left-back, and burst through the seams after a fantastic solo goal. After a move from Southampton to Tottenham, the winger scored 2 goals in 8 appearences. After several disappointing seasons, he scored 10 goals in the 2011-2012 season, and then had a brilliant season last season.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has said in a press conference that he thinks that £100m, the amount that Tottenham are now demanding, is too much for the Welshman.
Spurs have already spent big this season, buying Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Robert Saldado. Is this in preperation of the departure of Bale?
